Transport

ClimbOut is held at Thornbridge Outdoors Centre in Bakewell in the Peak District.

By Car

Travelling to the festival is easiest by car, and field parking is available; however, we want to encourage all attendees to do their part to reduce their impact on the planet 🌍! Please consider:

  1. Could you get a lift? Or offer one? Check out the BMC’s Community Lift Share. Don’t worry if you don’t have a BMC number or aren’t a member: when you’re asked for your BMC number, enter “ClimbOut2026”.
  2. Have you joined our ClimbOut Facebook Group and WhatsApp Community (coming soon)? This is a great place for attendees to connect and organise transport.
  3. Public Transport: For info about getting to Thornbridge visit their website.

Parking Info

There is very limited car parking near the main buildings at Thornbridge. This is reserved accessible parking for those who need it.

The main parking is in a field less than 3 minutes walk from the main buildings. The instructors van parking area is reserved for instructors only. If you prefer to sleep in your vehicle, there will be a section in the overflow car park where you may do so. But note that it will be further away from the facilities.

Approaching from Bakewell, take a left on a small track with a gate. Look out for volunteers and our pride flag! For accessible parking, continue on and turn left towards the gatehouse. Pass through the big gatehouse building and turn left again to find a spot.

To the Crag

If you are doing courses or climbing independently, you’ll need transport to get to the crag on Saturday and Sunday.

Lift-sharing is STRONGLY encouraged to get to the crags – a thoughtful approach to parking reduces environmental impact and helps to maintain access agreements.

Don’t worry if you are coming with friends who have booked onto different courses, there are usually plenty of people to carpool with, and we will try to help if anyone is stuck.

We also aim to have a couple of minibuses (accessible) to get to the crags on Saturday and Sunday, but these will be reserved/prioritised for attendees on courses.
