Tommy Ga-Ken Wan is a photographer based in Glasgow, working primarily in theatre and film sets. His parents gave him his first camera at the age of 14 and, three years later – despite no formal training in art or photography – his work had been published and exhibited internationally.
At the age of 19, following a trip to Pakistan funded by the British Council, Tommy began to work as a freelance photographer, and has undertaken a diverse range of projects, from working on film sets in Hong Kong and Paris to assisting local school children to produce an exhibition of their work; from documenting theatre and conferences across Europe and the USA to documenting the arts and nightlife scene in his home of Glasgow.
He has given invited lectures about his work at venues including The University of Glasgow and the High Commission of Pakistan. From 2010 to 2012, he appeared as the resident judge on The Big Shot, a photography-themed reality TV show filmed and broadcast in Singapore.
With an academic background in literature, Tommy’s interest is in people, stories and the texture of lived experience.
