Learn To Lead Trad

This Learn to Lead Trad course is perfect for those who want a whole weekend developing trad lead climbing skills. It is designed as the next step on your journey to becoming a safe and independent Trad Climber, looking at the skills to be a competent second and what’s involved in lead climbing.

The course will cover:

  • Movement technique on real rock
  • Competent seconding skills
  • Belaying a trad lead
  • Placing and removing traditional gear
  • Leading a route
  • Setting up belays
  • Setting up retrievable abseils
  • Decision making – understanding risk evaluation and management.

Duration: 2 days (Saturday 12th September and Sunday 13th September)

Ratio: 1:4

Minimum Age: 16 (Under 18s must be supervised by an adult who is also a participant on this course).

Pre-requisite experience: Participants must be consistently lead climbing indoors, be able to belay another lead climber and have some experience of climbing outdoors.

Required equipment: If you have any other climbing equipment such as rock shoes, a helmet, harness and belay plate please bring them along with you.
